BretA 2026: Fapes Program Will Take Retail Tech Startups from Espírito Santo on a Mission to Argentina

27/01/2026 09h30

Up to five retail startups from Espírito Santo will be selected for a business immersion in Buenos Aires and participation in Retail Day; applications are open until December 22.

Another mission under the Brazilian Startups Worldwide (BSW) program—an internationalization initiative developed by the Espírito Santo Research and Innovation Support Foundation (Fapes)—is now open for applications. Launched this Monday (08), the Brazilian Retail Techs in Argentina (BretA) program is carried out in partnership with Fecomércio-ES and Bcome.global, with support from the Innovation Diplomacy Program of Brazil’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Sebrae. The initiative offers startups and companies from Espírito Santo the opportunity to connect with the Latin American market and expand their global presence.

The main goal of BretA 2026 is to establish long-term connections between Brazilian Retail Techs and the innovation ecosystem of Argentina. The program will culminate in a seven-day international mission to Buenos Aires, from May 10 to 16, 2026, which includes participation in Retail Day 2026—one of Latin America’s leading B2B retail events—along with business matchmaking sessions and technical visits.

The call will select up to 15 startups for the international mission, including up to five from Espírito Santo. Companies will be divided into two groups:

Group A (Espírito Santo):
Retail Tech startups legally registered in the state of Espírito Santo may apply for a grant of up to BRL 60,000, provided by Fapes through the BSW Program, to cover travel-related expenses such as airfare, accommodation, and meals. The funding comes from the State Science and Technology Fund (Funcitec) / Capixaba Innovation Mobilization (MCI).

Group B (Other Brazilian States):
Technology-based companies from other regions of Brazil may also apply and gain access to the program’s curated agenda and activities, covering their own travel expenses.

Inclusion and Diversity

Reinforcing its commitment to diversity within the innovation ecosystem, the program will reserve one exclusive spot in the international mission for a startup whose internationalization lead self-identifies as:

  • Black or Brown;

  • Quilombola;

  • Indigenous;

  • A person with a disability (PwD);

  • A woman;

  • Or LGBTQIAPN+.

Interested Retail Techs must offer innovative solutions aimed at modernizing and increasing the competitiveness of the retail sector. Among the requirements, companies must have an active Brazilian business registration (CNPJ), a proprietary product, and designate a representative with advanced proficiency in English or Spanish.
