Event gathers dozens of Capixaba researchers and institutional representatives

A productive afternoon of knowledge exchange on internationalizing Capixaba research took place on Thursday, September 21, when the Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa e Inovação do Espírito Santo (Fapes) hosted a workshop on international cooperation in science, technology, and innovation. The session was led by Professor Maria Zaira Turchi, Director of International Cooperation at the National Council of State Research Support Foundations (Confap), who shared the institution’s initiatives and experiences.

The event aimed to provide detailed information on internationalization opportunities, including European funding, mobility programs, and partnerships abroad. Dozens of researchers and representatives from Capixaba institutions attended, engaging in discussions, clarifying questions about international calls, and suggesting models for cooperation.

“I greatly appreciate Fapes’ initiative. This was an extremely important moment to present Confap’s international actions, initiatives, and agreements, which involve various foundations across Brazil. Fapes has always been actively participating in these programs and calls. Presenting this and hearing directly from the Capixaba scientific community and institutions was very productive. It advanced the discussion and contributed significantly,” said Maria Zaira Turchi.

According to the Confap Director, Espírito Santo is nationally recognized for its strong support in research internationalization and science funding.

“It was important to be present to analyze the State’s demands and potential. Espírito Santo has stood out in science and innovation due to Fapes’ robust support, which has expanded its actions. Fapes remains open to seizing opportunities that bring international development to researchers and institutions. This competence reflects a continuous commitment to funding and targeted actions, which has had a strong impact,” Turchi added.

The importance of internationalization

Also attending the workshop, Fapes Director-General Rodrigo Varejão highlighted the strategic importance of positioning Espírito Santo as an innovative and competitive state through international connections.

“Espírito Santo is not territorially large, nor densely populated, so we need to seek partnerships abroad to further strengthen our research. We are pleased to generate opportunities for our researchers to connect with global centers of excellence. This way, we reinforce the scientific and technological development carried out by Capixaba institutions,” emphasized Varejão.
