Fapes Hosts EU Delegation Member at Event on Internationalization of Espírito Santo Research
Dhallys Mota Nunes presented European funding calls for 2025 under the Horizon Europe Program.
The internationalization of research in Espírito Santo is a top priority for the Espírito Santo Research and Innovation Support Foundation (Fapes). On Tuesday (15th), Fapes took another step in this direction by hosting Dhallys Mota Nunes, Policy Officer for Science, Technology, and Innovation at the European Union Delegation in Brazil, for the workshop “New Opportunities for Scientific Cooperation with the European Union: Horizon Europe”, held at the Detran auditorium in Vitória.
The event brought together researchers from various higher education and research institutions in Espírito Santo, aiming to increase local participation in international research, development, and innovation programs by sharing opportunities under the Horizon Europe Program.
During the workshop, Nunes presented the European funding calls for 2025, shared important information regarding the next work plan (2026–2027), and answered questions from the researchers in attendance.
“State Research Support Foundations (FAPs) play a very important role in this process because they are key partners that co-finance the participation of institutions and Brazilian researchers in these international calls. So, in reality, it’s a perfect match. I presented some calls fully funded by the European Commission and the EU, and others that can be co-funded by the FAPs, in this case Fapes. All of this is meant to encourage, enhance, and further internationalize small and medium enterprises, institutions, startups, and more. These calls are open to all sectors,” Nunes explained.
Celso Alberto Saibel Santos, Fapes’ Technical-Scientific Director, emphasized that the event represents a strategic opportunity to consolidate the internationalization of research in Espírito Santo.
“Dhallys is a representative of the European Community who connects Brazil to Europe and can show the pathways for Espírito Santo researchers to participate in European project teams. We expect an increasing number of proposals from local researchers in these European projects. In the first calls, participation was modest, with few projects submitted. With this workshop and its dissemination, we expect a much higher number of projects next year. Collaborating with European countries means working with world-class research, which is exactly what we need: to increase quality,” he said.
The event also featured Felipe Furtado Guimarães, Professor at the Federal University of Espírito Santo (Ufes) and Coordinator of the Espírito Santo Internationalization Network of Education (RIEES), who presented on the network’s activities.
“It is a network that already existed but is now being reactivated. The idea is to connect higher education institutions in Espírito Santo to strengthen collaboration regionally, nationally, and internationally. Events like this are very important to build closer relationships. With Fapes’ support, we can engage with those responsible for research funding and international studies. Internationalization involves collaboration between Brazilian and foreign institutions, as well as opportunities for research mobility—both Brazilians going abroad and foreigners coming to Brazil,” he concluded.
